T h e H ilU boro Argus assumes no fina ncia l responsibility for errors published in its columns. but in cases w here this paper to at fa u lt w ill re p rin t that p a rt of an advertisem ent in which the typographical m istake occurs. A a Independent Newspaper, whose services and policies are h a r d on the p rin cip le of the Golden R u le.— ’’And as ye would that men should do to you. do ye also to them likewise. M atthew ' 12 Maintaining Standards Argus sta ff changes were m ade by the publishers in their continued efforts to improve service for readers and ad vertisers. The publishers feel p a rticu la r ly fortunate in having Edw ard C. Coman as advertising m anager. Because of his experience and training in advertising he can be of real service and value to local m erchants in their advertising problems. He has served the paper and its readers exceptionally well as city editor for more th an three years and it is only through a desire to give local business the benefit of his experience th a t the change is made. Leon Davis, new spaper w riter of many y ears’ experience, will cover the news field in an interesting way th at is sure to please the readers. Francis B arr, who has been with the Argus for a num ber of y ear in different capacities and has made hundreds of friends by his contacts, will serve as field man throughout the area, gathering subscriptions, advertising, news and printing. He will m ake a num ber of nearby cities regularly in the interest of the paper. A new spaper worthy of the splendid community, steadily improving and al ways ready and eager to serve this dis trict in the best possible m anner for the good of the community has a ’.'vays been the aim of the publishers, Mrs. E. C. Mc Kinney and W. Verne McKinney, whose every interest is the good of Hillsboro and its surrounding territory. Congratulations A happy Am erican home is one of the blessings of life, and it seems th a t Mr. and Mrs. W illiam L. B atchelder of this city have attained th a t blessing. Owning a home during an entire lifetim e (the wife being born and reared th e re ), re a r ing their children there and having them m ake their homes at the same place, hav ing true lifelong friends in the commu nity, and being so highly respected by all who know them , is indeed som ething to be proud of. This is a record few may a t tain, and the Argus extends its heartiest congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. B atch elder on the celebration of th eir golden w edding anniversary and hopes they may live to celebrate many more anniversaries. Just why Portland police should can vass the business men of Hillsboro to buy tickets fo r th eir dance is a m ystery to m any people in this community. Hills boro has its own problem s and its own organization dances and benefits w here money spent in this m anner is rightly needed. W ith the deer hunting season open ing Sunday let us hope th a t there isn’t the usual increase in obituaries. If a per son uses the care th a t he should while in the woods there is little reason for the fatalities th a t usually occur. Motorists should rem em ber to be espe cially careful now with schools in session. Although the youngster should be trained and cautioned to watch, look and listen in crossing streets, they forget in the enthu siasm of youth and are liable to run out in the street without thinking. The mo torist should be thoroughly on his guard. Let’s quit killing. Our Yesterdays Fifteen Years Ago A rgus, S e p tem b e r 9, 1920 -C olem an H. Establishm ent of a farm er-labor party seems contrary to the very nature of things. For instance how could one feel th at interests were sim ilar when it was necessary to declare m artial law in a sec tion of Idaho in order to have the pea crop handled. Also a year ago when the longshoremen strike held up the move ment of wheat and other farm products to the loss of the farm er. John Kamna. w ho died last w eek, was of th a t high type of G erm an-A m erican citizens, who have contributed so much to the business and social life of W ash ington county. Steady, reliable and kind ly, he was highly respected. W ashington county exhibitors upheld the honor of the county in a creditable m anner at the state fair and co n g ratu la tions are due them for the honors won.
